Hannah Pembroke is a young emerging artist boldly taking her first steps into the contemporary art world. After completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School (2015) Hannah spent time exploring the cold and grandiose landscapes of North America, before returning back to her small alpine community of Jindabyne. Whilst in the Snowy Mountains (NSW) Hannah has spent time building her own studio space and independently driving her artistic practice. Galvanised by her often surreal surroundings, Hannah continues to explore the transient themes of nature; recording her personal journey and memories through aspects of person, place and time.
Within the last year Hannah has wholeheartedly committed to her aspirations of a self-driven career in the arts. While practising solo in her studio, Hannah found herself inspired by other creative contacts in her community who had limited access to gallery space or audience. This drove Hannah to take the lead in organising a group show in Sydney, pushing her collaborators to create new work and present it in an environment they had helped to construct. This attempt to bypass the corporate gallery scene, resulted in a successful, mixed media group show that premiered a theme of intrinsic nature in the heart of Paddington.
Hannah's passion for the arts continues to grow with each step she takes into this daunting industry. By basing herself in a rural area Hannah has stumbled upon an understanding of the necessity of decentralised, creative hubs and community spaces for emerging artists and youth. She believes the development of such spaces are crucial for artmaking in the contemporary.
